Call me crazy…

I'm doing this!

I haven't actively vended in years. Don't get me wrong, I still go out and do charity events when requested but I haven't really vended for income in a while.

What Started This Nonsense?

Have I lost my mind?

Yea, but that was long before and after the first 2 of our 10 kids became teenagers. Really it comes down to Kalie, my youngest of seven daughters.

She wanted to start doing the Roasting Nomad® the with Pig Roaster Pro® after hearing me talk with others doing it. That was until I actually got one for her.  More on that in a second…

I'm not picking on her. But you know teenagers.

She already has finished college and high school at 16 has been working some other jobs. Almost daily she has a new plan or idea. Last week she was moving to Miami, this week she's moving to South Carolina. Next week may be Oregon.

She certainly doesn't have a shortage of older siblings to go stay with.

It's Mine Now!

I talked it over with my wife and she agreed. Let's do this. She used to love vending with me on the hot dog cart, which we still have and use for charity stuff.

I do however have one problem. I already spend 7 days a week answering the phones, helping vendors, making videos, writing training articles, supporting Vendors United members, answering 100's of emails weekly and keeping up with the sales at www.hotdogcartstore.com.

I literally have no shortage of things to do.

But you know what they say. Sleep, it's overrated.

You can sleep when you're dead.

After-all, I've been wasting 5 to 6 hours a night on that useless stuff (sleep).

Where To Start

I'm going to cater with the Pig Roaster Pro and mostly it will be drop off catering from home. (fingers crossed). I love the whole catering business and I've been preaching from the pulpit for 3+ years to vendors worldwide about doing it with their hot dog cart [read: mobile commercial kitchen].

The home catering business is even mo betta gooder.

So I called the State inspector in my county. That made my day!

Rack Card

I'm one of those types that when I decide to start a new business, I need the logo and some business cards first. It's how my brain works. So I bought a domain, www.obxpig.com got a Google voice number for it that includes..
50-MYPIG and I ordered rack cards, because they are sexier than business cards. (my personal opinion)

They are larger and allow you to say more, plus, no one that I know of is keeping someone's business card anymore. I know I don't save them. Rack cards look more professional.

I haven't started giving them out yet but I got mine done up at Vista Print.

Domain & Facebook Page

I got a domain name at www.namecheap.com and then I created a Facebook business page.  I could have redirected the domain name: www.obxpig.com to the Facebook page but I chose to use Google's free forms to redirect it to. This way I can capture leads. It's not a permanent solution but it's a start. The Facebook page announces the domain name which goes to the form.

I put it up instantly, about 1 hour to have it all done. Then added some pics on Facebook page and got going. You can see the Facebook page here: fb.me/obxpig 

I Couldn't Stand It…

So I immediately had my wife put a picture of the Pig Roaster Pro on a local Facebook group with these words…

Look what my daughter just got. She's going to start doing catering with this.

That's it. Immediately we got comments and messages.

Days later, Kalei announces that she really has no interest.

Oh great!

Up till now, I thought I was doing this all for her…

IN FOR A PENNY…

In for a pound. So here we go. I'm invested and I sure wasn't going to just let it set. And to be completely honest, I'm excited and other Roasting Nomad Tribe members are excited to see me do it too.

Don't let me fool you though. I have used one because when we decided to create the Roasting Nomad Tribe and offer the Pig Roaster Pro, I wanted to test it out.

We tested with 5 “guinea pigs” who were down for the challenge. We tested for about 5 months. I actually went twice to Pennsylvania and helped do some pig gigs.

The numbers were outstanding and so down deep, I was wanting to do it anyway.
