Over the years I've seen some vendors really light up their hot dog cart. Most of these night vendors are those who work bars, clubs etc… and can use the extra light and attention that colorful LEDs bring.
Lights Attract People
Ever notice the lights at concerts, dance clubs, special events, ball games, bars etc…? Did you know there is actually science that goes into the lights, the way they flicker, the colors and the brightness at casinos worldwide? Did you know that fair owners use certain lights because they actually induce a response by humans?
Now you do! Humans are attracted to lights in general but we vary in response to different colors. There are hundreds of studies with demonstrable results showing the effects lights have on us.

The most recent article I did was one submitted by a vendor who recently lit up his cart with some fantastic LED lights. So I figured, why not share with you some tips on lighting up your hot dog cart.
So Where Can You Get Lighting?
It's not as expensive as you'd think. I've provided links below to places to get the right equipment and know how to deck your cart out. (and if you find a better source, please share it in the comments so others can save too)
Components
- LED tape lighting (Weatherproof / Outdoor)
- Solar Panel with Battery Controller/Minder (charges up to 4 batteries at a time)
- In Bulk or Retail packages – Color Changing LED Tape lighting or rope lighting

Installation is fairly simple and you can find some tutorials on YouTube on exactly how to do it if you're like me and can barely screw in a light bulb. One marine battery should do the trick unless you use some high output or high intensity lights (which isn't really advisable either way).
Connect your solar panel to the battery and the lights to the battery and place lights where you want them. Zip ties are a great tool for attaching lights, especially rope lighting.
