Lawyers!

Most people have at least one lawyer joke, but the Windy City vendors aren't going to be chiding in anytime soon.  Why?  Because Chicago University Law Students are coming to the defense of street vendors.  They want them and they believe vendors have a right to be there.  You won't find a vendor who disagrees either.

Chicago has a plethora of ordinances, some enforced by cops and could even get you arrested for the heinous crime of serving food before a certain time each day or even putting toppings on a hot dog for your customer.   No matter you're a chef and have been certified in food safety and handling procedures, the powers that be say;  No!

Why would they care?  Well follow the money as my papaw used to say.  Restaurants don't want the competition, no matter the public reasoning that is what it boils down to.  Wonder how many of those restaurant owners are campaign contributors to the folks making these ridiculous rules?   Hmmmmm.

A law students pockets are much like yours and mine, almost empty.  To be able to get a good fresh meal for a deal is important to them as well and without street vendors, it's almost impossible.   So kudos to these law students for taking the initiative to fight for our rights to sling dogs.
