Test Your Menu Items
Some street food vendors come up with crazy new ideas (gopher testicles?!) that they think will be big sellers. Who knows — maybe gopher testicles are a big deal in some parts? But before you go ahead and invest in that new menu item, you should test it.
And you don't have to hire some big test restaurant or invest in lots of ingredients to test a new menu idea. You can test your menu items on Facebook for free!
I did this recently with a simple biscuit sandwich. I put up a photo of a biscuit with a sausage and asked for feedback. Guess what — people are eager to give you their opinion on stuff like that! So before you add a new menu item, post it up on Facebook and ask people if they like it. Put it on your personal page or your business page and ask people if they like it.
That way, you can get feedback and information before you even buy the products. And if it turns out that the response is positive, maybe you want to try that as a special limited time item. A vendor recently did this with a new type of sandwich, and now he's created buzz and people love it. He sells out every time he has it on his cart!
