I know what your thinking….
Who the hell takes their hot dog cart underwater? In fact, at BensCarts.com, we don't even make waterproof hot dog carts. I have had several vendors send me a link to a part you can add to your cart that is supposed to really help us out.
I have to admit, I looked at it and I showed Keith. Keith is my business partner and our engineer. He only needed a few seconds to tell me why it was useless to us vendors.
I probably don't need Keith to tell you. If you read the above caption from their website. “When the hub is submerged, water cannot enter the hub…” I don't know about ya'll but I don't take my trailer underwater.
A misconception is that with this device, you no longer need to repack your bearings. WRONG! Most trailer manufacturers suggest repacking every 4 to 5 years depending on use and conditions of use, e.g. underwater use. This device does nothing to prevent having to pack your bearings.
On our hot dog carts, the grease fitting is in the dust cap and you can quickly add grease anytime. Pop the cap off every 6 to 12 months and check the grease and then add if necessary. The bearing buddy is designed for and sold for trailers that are often submerged, i.e. Boat trailers. Keith said, “If you really need this on a cart and you have the extra money to spend, why not go ahead and upgrade to submersible lights too?”
Bottom line: Great for boat trailers. I think I will order a set for my boat trailer, but I won't be using it on my hot dog cart.
