Howdy folks! Finding the right vendor location is key – and I’ve got a great tip for you today that has helped many vendors in our Vendors United group pull in some serious cash.
Ben here, ready to drop some knowledge bombs to help you maximize your earnings as a street food vendor.
If you're out there vending or considering jumping into this awesome business, let me share with you a little secret that could make a big difference in your bottom line.
The Power of Obscure Locations
Before we dive into the specifics, let's clear something up.
If you think you need to be on the busiest corner of town to make bank, think again.
While it's tempting to set up shop at a high-traffic intersection, those spots often aren't as lucrative as you might think.
Why?
Because people zipping by at 60 miles an hour aren’t likely to make a sudden stop for a hot dog, no matter how good it smells.
Instead, the best vendors often choose more obscure locations—places where they can set up shop with less competition and a ready-made crowd.

Vendor Location: Schools and Their Fundraisers
One of the absolute best vendor location tips I can give you is this: Work with local schools.
Schools are a goldmine for street food vendors, and here’s why.
Public schools are constantly in need of funds.
Whether it’s selling candy bars or hosting a bake sale, schools are always trying to raise money for everything from teacher supplies to extracurricular activities.
And this is where you come in.

How to Get Started With Schools
It’s pretty simple, really.
First, you’ll want to contact the school board or the school superintendent.
If you live in a smaller community, you can even go directly to the principal.
Trust me, showing up in person or setting up a meeting via email is going to work in your favor.
People are more likely to say yes when they can put a face to the request.
Once you’ve got your foot in the door, suggest setting up your cart at school events.
You could start with something like a “Meet the Teacher” night or a PTA meeting.
The key here is to offer to donate a portion of your earnings back to the school.
This makes it a win-win situation—you make money, the school gets much-needed funds, and parents have an easy dinner option while they’re attending school functions.
Why Schools Are a Great Vendor Location
What makes schools such a sweet spot for vending?
For starters, think about the number of people who show up to school events.
Even a modestly sized school can bring in hundreds, if not thousands, of people during an event.
Parents, grandparents, teachers, staff, and of course, the kids—these are all potential customers.
And the best part?
They’re all in one place with nowhere else to go.
It’s like shooting fish in a barrel, except you’re selling delicious hot dogs, lemonade, or whatever other tasty treats you’ve got on offer.
We’ve got vendors in our group who do nothing but school functions, and they’re making a full-time living from it.
Yes, you read that right.
Two vendors I know of only do school events, and they’ve turned it into a highly lucrative business.
Get Creative With Your Vendor Locations
If you’re struggling to find the perfect vendor location or wondering where to start, schools are a fantastic option.
But don’t limit yourself—think about other obscure locations where people gather but might not have easy access to food.
These could include industrial parks, hospitals, local festivals, or even church events.

The key is to think outside the box and find places where the crowds are ready and waiting for you.
Final Thoughts
Whether you're a seasoned vendor or just getting started, finding the right vendor location can make all the difference in your success.

Schools offer an incredible opportunity to make money while giving back to your community.
Remember, it’s not always about setting up in the busiest place, but in the smartest place.
