Hot Dog Mike goes Brick & Mortar

We interviewed long time vendor and friend of the show Hot Dog Mike last night.  Mike is a local celebrity in Little Rock, AR for more than just hot dogs.  Mike has two HotDogCartStore.com hot dog carts and has been slinging weenies for a while now.

He's used his fortunes in hot dogs to help his community feed the homeless, he's sold the World's Record Most Expensive Hot Dog and he's an all around humanitarian.  Mike's business has flourished and he's now moved into a small restaurant.

Only 350 sq. feet and intentionally so.  You see, Mike didn't want to change the game, he's dancing with the one that brought him; from his new brick and mortar business he cooks on hot plates and heats with crock pots.

Of course he could have went headlong into the business and opened up a 50 table diner, in fact his customers would have supported him had he gone that direction.  But Mike is smart, he knows bigger isn't always better and he knows if he keeps his overhead to a minimum, then the more he'll be able to help his community.

Someone emailed me and wanted to know about brick and mortar businesses and asked if we could get Mike to come on and share.  The beauty is, because he did this small and he's keeping to the same things he offered from his cart, the only that that really changed is – Mike is now indoors.

Literally – it's the same setup.

Most of us would be expanding our menu, attempting to be all things to everyone, but Mike knew better, he raised $10,000 with GoFundMe to verify the support from the community and he opened up on a shoestring budget.  I call that smart, no – Brilliant!
