There are many benefits to being self employed. But hot dog vendor health insurance ain't one. It's the reason many vendors continue part time.
HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS
If they're lucky enough to have good insurance at a job – it's usually the only thing keeping them there. I personally know many part time vendors that keep a job they HATE – only because of the benefits. e.g. health insurance
GROUP INSURANCE FOR HOT DOG VENDORS
Until now – I've always referred hot dog vendors and other street food vendors who ask about health insurance to….
9 OUT OF 10 DON'T EVEN KNOW THIS
After the Affordable Care Act (OBAMA CARE) was implemented – many southern states opted out of the Medicare Expansion which would have made it more affordable for all of us.
They did this to “jab” the president, but it immediately hurt you and I. Then these states also opted to prevent a competitive market in these states and allowed only one carrier to fulfill the Federal Law minimums.
This gave most of us one choice. Blue Cross / Blue Shield. And what does a multi-billion dollar company do when they have a state granted monopoly?
They increase their profit margins!
In layman's terms… they stick it to us. And for most it was not even possible to purchase an individual or family policy.
My wife and I applied, and with no previous medical issues – it was a whopping $1465.00 a month for the two of us. You know – a basic plan, with huge deductibles.
WE HAD JUST BEEN FOOLED
Thanks to our state legislators (law makers) they opted out – of better care for us all and competition amongst insurers. And like some 3rd grade bully, showed Obama (and all of us) where we could stick it.
we unwittingly cut our noses off to spite our face
What's even more astounding, is those voters in those states – (us) – many were proud that our Governors and state officials had gone against the Affordable Care Act.
However – for them to stick it to Obama, we got stuck twice. They didn't care about us. And so many of us opted to instead pay the fine for not having the insurance we couldn't afford.
After-all, $250 fine is cheaper than $18,000 in annual premiums.
GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE FOR HOT DOG VENDORS – CAN BE OURS!
Maybe. As in – for some of us – it's available and will likely save you money over the current plans.
I read about it here in this article by Health Markets. And I didn't even know it possible to get a group plan when the group could be as small as one person. [GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE FOR VENDORS HERE]
