Rick of “Rick's Dogs” was gracious enough to chat with us about his hot dog cart business success. He started about a year and a half ago, and says without Ben's help, he would not be making $200/day six days a week. Watch the full interview here!
Rick's Advice for Hot Dog Cart Business Success
Rick works from a Big Dog food cart in Alabama, and he sells hot dogs and lemonade to customers six days a week. He has a location that he loves, under a shade tree. He has lots of regular customers who says he sells the best hot dog in town, and they love his homemade lemonade, too. Rick got the lemonade idea from Learn Hot Dogs and sells about $75 of lemonade every day. (If you have a food stand, you should sell lemonade too!)
When he was starting his hot dog cart business, Rick ran into some obstacles with business licensing and permits in his town. He used free information from LearnHotDogs.com and tips from Ben's hot dog business book to get through the red tape.
Some of Rick's other tips include:
- Have fun with your customers
- It's cheaper to refill propane tanks than swapping them out
- Get Ben's phone number and email for when you have questions (Ask Ben)
